About this Event
The 1875 Clinton Massacre and the Overthrow of Multiracial Democracy in Mississippi
On September 4, 1875, racist violence erupted at a community picnic, leading to the deaths of unknown numbers of African Americans in the months that followed. 150 years later, we commit ourselves to learn from the past, to honor those who lost their lives, and to do better in the future.
Join us for an academic panel discussion with Dr. Albert Dorsey (Jackson State University), Dr. Melissa Janczewski Jones (History Colorado), Nicholas Lemann (Redemption: The Last Battle of the Civil War), and Heath Anderson (Mississippi State University).
