Cameron Binkley will present an illustrated talk about the history of the two Presidios of Monterey, drawing upon extensive archival resources and many years of interpretive experience. He will cover Native American habitation, Spanish colonization, the Battle of Monterey, the Mexican American War, the impact of American expansion on Monterey, Buffalo Soldiers, the cavalry era, World War II, and the arrival of the Army’s language school.

Cameron Binkley is the Command Historian for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center at the Presidio of Monterey. He first arrived at the Presidio in 2007 after working several years for the National Park Service. Binkley also held research positions at Stanford University and the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS). He is a graduate of San Francisco State University, MIIS, and the University of Denver.
