Stella Swings Ella in Occidental
About this Event
Experience a magical night honoring the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald, the First Lady of Jazz. Over her six-decade career, Ella evolved from the dynamic voice of the swing era at Harlem’s Savoy Ballroom with Chick Webb to a trailblazing jazz icon, renowned for her dazzling scat solos and definitive interpretations of the Great American Songbook. Her legendary partnerships with masters like Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, and George Gershwin turned their melodies into enduring treasures, and even in her later years, she captivated global audiences, frequently sharing the stage with guitar genius Joe Pass.
Bay Area songstress Stella Heath—celebrated for her standout performances in The Billie Holiday Project and Stella Meets Nat—now brings Ella’s timeless music to life in Stella Swings Ella. Backed by an all-star ensemble including Ian Scherer (guitar), Daniel Fabricant (bass), Robby Elfman (sax/clarinet), and Spike Klein (drums), this show is a must-see homage to one of jazz’s greatest voices.
