Welcome to the 6th Annual Into The Light Walk organized by the Lapeer County Suicide Prevention Network! Join us for a meaningful event dedicated to raising awareness about suicide prevention. Walk with us in solidarity with those who have been affected by suicide to honor those we have lost. Let's come together and show our support for mental health awareness. Together, we can make a difference. See you there!
Registration on site begins at 11:30am. Walk starts at 1pm.
Food and T-shirts will be given free of charge along with other community resources.

So far in 2025, there have been 7 suicides in Lapeer County.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention:
-Between 2000-2020, suicide rates increased 46% in non-metro areas compared to 27.3% in metro areas
-In 2021, Michigan had 1485 deaths due to suicide
-Over 49,000 Americans died by suicide in 2023
-That is 1 death every 11 minutes
-In 2021, there were 1.7 million adults who attempted suicide
-The suicide rate among males in 2021 was approximately four times higher than the rate among females. Males make up 50% of the population but nearly 80% of suicides
-People ages 85 and older have the highest rates of suicide
-Firearms are the most common method used in suicides. Firearms are used in more than 50% of suicides
