Hear all original music this evening! Selections take large influence from both Brazilian and Cuban styles, as well as from legendary jazz artist Ray Brown.
is a New Orleans–based jazz drummer and dedicated student of the city's rich music traditions. Originally from California, he began playing drums at three years old and relocated to New Orleans to pursue his musical career. He is currently a full scholarship recipient at Loyola University, where he is studying under some of the nations most revered jazz educators as well as iconic performers, including Shannon Powell, Herlin Riley, and Leroy Jones. Gavin’s performance experience extends beyond the classroom; he has shared the stage with acclaimed contemporary artists such as Pedro Segundo, Nicolas Payton, Dayna Stephens, and Gabrielle Cavassa. His musical approach is rooted in the lineage of jazz, and also reflects a distinct influence from Afro-Cuban traditions, which inform both his rhythmic vocabulary and compositional voice. He is currently developing a tribute project honoring the legendary bassist Ray Brown, with plans to record the work within the next year. Through his studies, performances, and ongoing creative projects, Gavin remains committed to the preservation, evolution, and global dialogue of jazz music.
is a pianist based in New Orleans. He started playing the piano at age 5 with classical piano lessons before switching to jazz in middle school. Seth has played venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Jazz at Lincoln Center in Shanghai, and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Seth has played with the likes of Sean Jones, Gabrielle Cavassa, Victor Goines, Jason Marsalis, amongst others. He loves jazz because it has a spontaneous energy that he feels is reflected in his own personality.
was born in New York City and grew up in the uniquely rich musical town of Montclair NJ. Studying with many legends including Christian McBride and Billy Hart, at the esteemed organization Jazz House Kids, he was around high level peers from an early age. He received a soloist award at the Essentially Ellington competition and top honors at the Charles Mingus Competition. At age 17, he was given a touring spot in the Thelonious Monk Institute All Stars. After high school, he attended Northwestern University where he studied with Carlos Henríquez and Victor Goines, with whom he played at New Orleans Jazz Festival in 2014. He fell in love with New Orleans, and moved there shortly after graduating, where he has played and recorded with many of the city's top musicians. He has toured internationally with Cyrille Aimée, Judith Owen, the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, Gabrielle Cavassa and others. Formidable on both the acoustic and the electric bass, and as a producer, Lex is passionate about staying grounded in the present moment, in nature, and in learning about the world...and reflects that energy in his groove!
