Colm O'Brien
About this Event
Colm O'Brien
Description: Colm O’Brien is a Dublin-born, Boston-based singer, songwriter, and guitarist deeply rooted in Irish traditional music. With a voice described as “tarnished, gravelly … like Rod Stewart,” he grew up in a musical family that included championship fiddlers and pipers. After cutting his teeth in Dublin sessions and bands, he moved to the U.S. in 1999, performing with groups like Fatal Flower, Uncle Arthur, Hiring Fair, Rud Eile, and the Celtic rockers The Prodigals, whom he fronted for over a year.
As a solo artist, Colm has released acclaimed albums such as It Is What It Is and Back to Work?, blending timeless traditional ballads with his own originals. He’s known for resurrecting obscure Celtic songs and weaving their histories into his performances, along with contemporary storytelling—sometimes taking on social and economic themes. Colm remains a fixture on the New England Irish music scene, performing regularly in Boston-area pubs and bringing both passion and deep cultural knowledge to every show.
