The Magic of Monarchs

Presented by: Go Green Highland Park, and the Highland Park Sustainability Group

About this Event

Monarchs are magical insects. They are beautiful to look at and play a critical role as pollinators for our gardens. They are also the official State Insect of Illinois! But did you know Monarch butterflies are one of the few butterfly species that undertake a two-way migration, flying thousands of miles between breeding grounds and overwintering sites?

Jane Talesnick, our presenter and resident of Highland Park, is a “Monarch Maven”! She has studied with Monarch Joint Venture Lepidopterists and has taught at the Chicago Botanic Gardens and facilitated workshops for teachers in the Chicagoland area. Jane will share her expertise about these amazing insects: their life-cycle, migration paths and the important role they play in our conservation efforts.

All are welcome to join us for a fun, interactive learning experience, and when you attend, you will go home with a milkweed plant so you can start your own Monarch sanctuary.
