About this Event

Join us at Leica Store San Francisco on Thursday, September 18, 2025, for a special evening celebrating the launch of The Grateful Dead by Jim Marshall, a new photo book published by Chronicle Books. This event is a celebration and conversation around this new master piece, featuring a Q&A and book signing plus live music by David Gans veteran Deadhead and music historian.

This highly anticipated publication showcases over 200 photographs capturing the Grateful Dead’s formative years from 1966 to 1977, as seen through the lens of legendary photographer Jim Marshall.

Curated by Amelia Davis and David Gans, and featuring an afterword by GRAMMY® Award–winning artist John Mayer, the book offers an unprecedented visual journey through one of the most influential eras in American music history. Marshall’s intimate access and instinctive eye documented the Dead onstage, backstage, and at home, resulting in a body of work that remains unmatched.

To mark the occasion, David Gans will perform live in tribute to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Grateful Dead and their enduring legacy.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to honor Jim Marshall’s iconic work and the music of the Grateful Dead in the city where it all began.

This event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase.
