Step out of the cold and into the warmth at Misfits. This winter, Misfits and Tyrrell Studios invites you to slow down and explore the tactile pleasure of working with clay in a focused, hands-on workshop centred around the humble forms of mugs, plates, and bowls.

Over two hours, you’ll be introduced to the foundational elements of ceramic practice. We’ll begin with a brief discussion on the nuances of clay bodies, firing temperatures, and glazes, followed by a demonstration of hand-building techniques tailored to functional tableware.

The heart of this session lies in surface design — a study in texture, pattern, and personal expression. Using a curated selection of tools and found objects, we’ll explore methods of carving, impressing, and layering marks into clay, creating depth and detail that give each piece its own quiet character.

This workshop is suited to both beginners and those with prior experience looking to deepen their practice.

What you’ll get:

• Wine, beer, or a non-alcoholic beverage on arrival
• 400g of clay to create whatever your heart desires
• Your piece professionally fired and glazed, ready for pick-up from Misfits within 6–8 weeks

Please note: Pottery is a beautifully rewarding but unpredictable craft. While every care is taken during the making, drying, and firing process, accidents can occasionally occur. This may result in cracks, breakages, or kiln mishaps beyond our control. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds or replacements for any pieces that are damaged during firing. Thank you for your understanding and for embracing the wabi-sabi nature of clay.
