About this Event
INNYC Presents: How to Defuse a Bomb – The Project Children StoryAn evening with Denis Mulcahy, co-founder of Project Children
Join INNYC for an unforgettable evening with Mr. Denis Mulcahy—retired NYPD Bomb Squad Detective, two-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee, and co-founder of Project Children—as we screen the powerful documentary How to Defuse a Bomb: The Project Children Story.
This compelling film tells the story of how one man’s bold idea brought thousands of children from Northern Ireland to the United States during the height of the Troubles, offering them a glimpse of peace—and hope—for the future. Through firsthand accounts, archival footage, and powerful storytelling, the documentary explores the impact of Project Children and its legacy in building bridges across divided communities.
Following the screening, Denis will join us in person to share reflections on the origins of the project, his experiences in both Northern Ireland and New York, and the lasting importance of peacebuilding work today.
This event also marks the continued evolution of Project Children’s legacy through our cultural partnership with Monaghan County Council and the creation of the Move to Monaghan Peace Campus, a lasting symbol of transatlantic connection and reconciliation.
