Different Beauty [artist talk]
About this Event
In this live talk, David will present striking photographs and short videos from his journeys, offering an unfiltered look at the people and places that have shaped his work. He will share some of his most powerful, disturbing, and absurd stories—from photographing revolutionary youth in Iran and female fighters in Ukraine, to documenting gang violence in Guatemala, child labor in Ghana, and alcoholism in Greenland.
He will speak candidly about the strange, beautiful, and often heartbreaking moments he has witnessed, including time spent with Japanese businessmen, Detroit rappers, and underground LGBTQ+ communities in authoritarian countries. David will discuss his first book, Different Beauty, a powerful reflection on his encounters that has received wide recognition in Czechia and around the world.
is a Czech documentary photography based in Prague. He focuses on human-driven stories that provoke thought and challenge convention.
“I see my photography as a powerful weapon that kills stereotypes and xenophobia, a sweet cake that brings joy, and a medicine that opens eyes. I want my photos to show much more than just an image. A photo that’s only a photo is useless.”
His photography has been featured in The Guardian, VICE, Vanity Fair, Le Monde, The Huffington Post, and others. His exhibitions have spanned cities like Tokyo, Tel Aviv, Berlin, Washington D.C., and London, and he has earned recognition from World Press Photo, Sony World Photography Awards, Czech Press Photo, and Pictures of the Year International.
This upcoming talk will be a provocative, eye-opening experience—a call to see the world differently, without filters, without judgment, and with uncompromising honesty.
