Pianist Xuanxiang Wu qualified for the main rounds of both The Van Cliburn and Ferruccio Busoni Piano Competitions 2025

About this Event

Xuanxiang Wu, age 18, was admitted to the Primary School of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music at the age of 9, where he studied under Professor Ting Zhong. At 14, he was accepted into the Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division in New York, studying with Dr. Ernest Barretta. In August 2025, he will begin his undergraduate studies at the Juilliard School under the tutelage of Professor Yoheved Kaplinsky.


As a rising pianist, Wu has performed at prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, St. Petersburg State Capella Concert Hall, the National Opera Centre (USA), Van Cliburn Concert Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and the Shanghai Oriental Art Centre. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, New York International Youth Philharmonic, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, New York Symphony Orchestra, and the Moscow State Conservatory Symphony Orchestra.


Most recently, Wu won First Prize and the Audience Prize at the New York Liszt International Piano Competition and performed Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium with the Orchestra of St. Luke's, conducted by Gábor Hollerung.


In August 2025, Wu will present a solo recital at St. Paul’s Church in London. The event is supported by the Liszt Society (UK) and the CIPMF Piano Festival, Founder/Artistic Director: Hao YAO; Co-Artistic Director: Leslie Howard with additional overseas recital engagements and cultural collaborations to follow.
