Taste Memory at Shangri La

Celebrate the close of Chef Ahu Hettema’s 2025 residency at Shangri La with an immersive afternoon of food, art, and storytelling. Wander the galleries to uncover Chef Ahu’s visual artwork and poetry amongst Shangri La's historic and contemporary collection, share seasonal mezes and thoughtful cocktails on the Upper Lawn, hear Chef reflect on her journey, and view a short film that traces her transformative culinary practice and experience during the residency. Taste memory itself- flavors, images, and conversations that remind us all of who we are and where we come from.

Taste Memory, invites you to Shangri La on Saturday, August 16, from 2:00-5:00pm, to experience how flavor, story, and art can hold memory across distance and time. Explore the galleries, taste mezes, and expereince the emotional resonance of identity as you move through transformation and nostalgia.

Event Overview: Run of Show

• 1:30: All parking at the KCC parking lot (corner of Makapu'u and Kilauea)
• 2:00: Shuttle bus ride to Shangri La
• 3:00: Opening ceremony on the upper lawn with food and drink
• 4:00: Conversation with Chef Ahu Hettema
• 4:30: Short-film screening
• 4:45: Exit to KCC
