Nature Embroidered: The Art of Myrtie Cope
About this Event
This exhibition consists of photographs of nature which have been hand embroidered with cotton or silk embroidery thread. With a background in textiles and sewing, the photographer has incorporated her sewing skills into her photographs, both black and white images and color images. The embroidery adds texture and interest to landscapes and nature photos and, on some photos, creates an abstract impression. The stitches focus on different areas of the photos and some images have been layered to create dimension. Beads and buttons have also been incorporated into some of the photos. The embroidery takes photography in a new direction.
