Join us for a hands-on, creative exploration of artistic paper making using gel plates and acrylic paint! In this engaging one-day workshop, you’ll discover the magic of monoprinting—an intuitive and fun process that produces stunning, one-of-a-kind patterned and textured papers. All levels welcome.

Through guided instruction and experimentation, you will:

• Learn the basics of gel plate printing, including layering techniques and color blending

• Explore various textures, stencils, and mark-making tools to create unique designs

• Experiment with different types of paper to achieve diverse effects

• Develop a collection of beautifully printed papers for use in mixed media, collage, journaling, or as standalone artworks

No prior experience is necessary, just bring your creativity and a willingness to play with color and texture! By the end of the day, you’ll have a stack of gorgeous handmade papers and the confidence to continue printing at home.

Materials Provided by Instructor: some acrylic paints, various paper types, stencils, and texture tools. The instructor will bring papers and paints as well so bring what you have.

Student Supply list:

• Geli plate 8"x10" or larger plus surface to keep gel plate on such as acrylic cutting board

• Brayer

• Scissor

• Non-recycled printer paper aka "bright white"

• Tissue paper

• Craft paper

• Any other papers to try such as rice paper

• Matte medium

• Acrylic paints

• Craft paints, please include at least one metallic paint

• Stencils

• Acrylic brushes

• Apron

• Substrate of mixed media paper or a canvas or board 12"x12" to 16"x20"

About the instructor: Alleyn is an award-winning contemporary artist originally from Portland OR and now resides in Palm Desert CA. She primarily works in mixed media using acrylic, collage, pastels and watercolors. Her unique and distinct style is collected internationally with works in the USA, England and Australia. She has been a teacher and a student of art for more than 40 years. She is currently member of Coachella Watercolor Society.
