About this Event

Moth Trap event

While we are tucked up on summer nights, a remarkable traffic takes to the skies. Moths are busy seeking mates, feeding, avoiding enemies and laying eggs.

We have 1505 moth species in Ireland, and high-quality habitat can hold hundreds of species. Moths are often unseen, and only available when trapped at light.

The moth-trapping event at Killyon cow park with Jesmond Harding from Butterfly Conservation Ireland will, weather obliging, give an indication of moth populations and reflect habitat quality. We hope to see a myriad of moths, showing their wonderful colours and shapes, in a powerful moth trap that features a special mercury vapour lamp.

Join in the fun on the moth morning on 7am on Saturday, 2nd August.

Organised by Killyon Community Council and funded by Community Foundation of Ireland. Please note if it is lashing rain, event will be postponed - please check your emails before setting out.
