Join us for an intimate evening of insight and reflection as celebrated Irish author Carlo Gébler sits down with Karen Sofe to discuss his latest memoir, A Cold Eye: Notes from a Shared Island 1989–2024.

Spanning over three decades of political upheaval, personal encounters, and cultural change, A Cold Eye offers a powerful and reflective lens on life across the island of Ireland. In this special event, Gébler will share stories from the book and speak to the experience of chronicling such a complex and evolving national identity.

Over a career spanning four decades, he has built a remarkable body of work that is as broad as it is impactful. In addition to his writing, Gébler has worked as a filmmaker and broadcaster — most recently presenting Escape from the Maze (BBC Radio 3), a ten-part series exploring the 1983 IRA escape from Long Kesh. He is also deeply committed to Pr*son education, having spent 20 years as writer-in-residence at HMP Maghaberry and continuing his work with incarcerated individuals across Northern Ireland.
