Join us for an evening of Cocktails, Sumptuous Buffet Dinner, Author Readings and Book Signing Friday, August 8, 2025 from 5-9:30 pm!

About this Event

This summer's ninth annual Evening with Maine Authors to benefit Camp Susan Curtis features two fine writers.

Peter Brown is a celebrated author and illustrator of many bestselling and award-winning children’s books such as prestigious Caldecott Honor winner Creepy Carrots. His book The Wild Robot was made into a movie from DreamWorks Animation that was a massive success. At one point it was the #1 most watched movie in the world, and went on to earn multiple Golden Globe nominations and Academy Award nominations.

Novelist Shannon Bowring’s The Road to Dalton won the 2024 Maine Literary Book for fiction and her Where the Forest Meets the Road was the May 2025 selection for Maine Public Radio’s All Books Considered. In addition to being a very good writer, Shannon is also a local librarian!

All proceeds from the event will benefit Camp Susan Curtis, a non-profit organization that provides a free 10-day overnight summer camp experience to Maine children facing economic hardship.* At CSC, Maine children build self-confidence, find belonging in a supportive community, develop a lifelong connection to nature, and gain the leadership and life skills they need to discover their full potential, through a nature-based curriculum.

We would also like to recognize the following organizations for generously sponsoring this event: Great Northern Docks (Presenting Sponsor), Chalmers Insurance, Oxford Federal Credit Union, Hancock Lumber, and Norway Savings Bank.
