August Special Event: Celebration of Not Knowing
About this Event
Celebrate Not Knowing with us for this extra special, not-to-be-missed Sawmill Poetry on August 4. Note: all four authors may not be in attendance at Plenty, but the event *will* feature the writers talking about and reading from their book.
Not Knowing is a collaboration of four poets and three fine art photographers with poetry by Brother Paul Quenon, Andrew/Sunfrog Smith, J. M. White and Ron Whitehead and fine art images from Brother Paul Quenon, Jinn Bug and Lenny Foster. Each poem is matched with a fine art image. The four poets met at Thomas Merton's hermitage at the Abbey of Gethsemani in rural Kentucky and compiled the poems on Merton's desk with each poet contributing a dozen poems all themed around the idea of the importance of the silent state of nonconceptual realization.
About the Authors:
* Brother Paul Quenon studied with Thomas Merton for over ten year and was his assistant at the Abbey.
* Ron Whitehead is internationally know for his poetry and for organizing massive poetry events around the world.
* Andrew/Sunfrog is a prolific poet and writer teaching in the English Department of Tennessee Technological University.
* J. M. White has fourteen books in print and has been a student of Tibetan Buddhism and Native American cultures for the past half century.
As always, Sawmill Poetry will also feature an open mic. Poetry, spoken word, dramatic monologue, short prose, and more are welcome. Arrive by 6:45 to sign up.
