Ucross Bird Walk with Bighorn Audubon Society
About this Event
Ucross is teaming up with the Bighorn Audubon Society to host a special bird walk on Sunday, September 14, at 1:00 p.m. This free, public event is a wonderful opportunity to experience spring migration in one of Wyoming’s designated Important Bird Areas (IBA).
We are meeting at the Ucross Art Gallery for a guided walk to the ponds — a scenic, 1.5-mile loop through diverse habitats that support a rich variety of birdlife.
The Ucross Ranch provides critical habitat on the western edge of the Powder River Basin, including riparian corridors, wetlands, native grasslands, sagebrush scrublands, and upland areas that support species such as the Long-billed Curlew and Greater Sage-Grouse.
Keep an eye out for other favorites, too, like Bald Eagles, Ferruginous and Swainson’s Hawks, Sandhill Cranes, Mountain Bluebirds, Western Meadowlarks, Wild Turkeys, and Great Blue Herons.
After the walk, be sure to visit the Ucross Art Gallery and Cafe to explore the current exhibition and get a specialty pastry by the Ucross Chef.
