Pinnacles Condor Hike

Searching for condors in the High Peaks at Pinnacles National Park.

About this Event

A 5.6 mile loop hike to observe California Condors in the High Peaks area of Pinnacles National Park. We’ll use radio-tracking equipment to detect and locate condors in a rugged area they frequently use in winter. We’ll travel at a leisurely pace to offset the uphill conditions. Be sure to bring plenty of water and a snack, and dress in layers. Sturdy shoes or hiking boots are recommended; hiking poles may be useful. Heavy rain cancels.

Directions: From Highway 101 in Gilroy, take the Highway 25 exit south past Hollister until you reach Highway 146 and the east entrance to Pinnacles National Park. It’s about 45 miles south of Highway 101. Once inside the park, make a left at the campground entrance. The store will be to the left with the parking lot 100 yards behind it.

Are dogs allowed on Discover Diablo hikes?

No. Some Discover Diablo hikes take place on land owned by other organizations (such as Mount Diablo State Park & East Bay Regional Park lands) and many of the trails on these properties have a strict no-dog policy.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Anyone under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No. On the hike day, we will have a roster with your registration information on it. Please make sure to check in with the hike leader.
