FAIRFIELD HORSESHOE - Iconic Route from Ambleside
About this Event
FAIRFILED HORSESHOE - Iconic Route from Ambleside
Join us in Ambleside to complete possibly the most famous horseshoe route in The Lakes, bagging EIGHT Wainwrights along the way.
We meet at the entrance to the main car park in Ambleside and head to the foot of our main ascent, Nab Scar, above Rydal and Grasmere. From here we have gained much of our height for the day and we go on to 'peak hop' across numerous more Wainwrights (listed below), with Fairfiled as our highest point.
This route gives us breathtaking views across Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere and Rydal Water, plus much more of the Lakes at various points throughout the hike.
Wainwrights:
1. Nab Scar
2. Heron Pike
3. Great Rigg
4. Fairfield
5. Hart Crag
6. Dove Crag
7. High Pike
8. Low Pike
Although there is no technical terrain, this is a challenging hike in a remote mountainous environment. A good level of fitness is required. Groups are encouraged to stick together and there are no medals for finishing first.

Parking: As above.
Distance: 11 miles (18km)
Elevation: 3,000ft (915m)
