On June 24th progressive candidate Iván Cepeda conceded Colombia's presidential election to Abelardo de la Espriella, a conservative outsider who was endorsed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The current president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro,  has been one of the most vocal critics of Israel's military actions in Gaza, labeling them a "genocide". Trump revoked his visa to the U.S. as punishment. In late 2025, the Trump administration revoked Petro's visa after he participated in a massive pro-Palestinian demonstration in New York City. During the rally, he urged U.S. soldiers to disobey presidential orders regarding the conflict. 

Join us for this event to hear from James Jordan about the significance of the U.S. regaining an ally in South America.  James Jordan has been leading solidarity activism with Colombia for decades with the Alliance for Global Justice (https://afgj.org/).
