Join us for a festive event filled with birdwatching, engaging talks about the incredible journeys of these majestic birds, and a walk to the river, where you’ll have the chance to witness them building their nests at the heron rookery in Northeast Minneapolis.

We will gather on the banks of the Mississippi River, weather permitting, so be prepared for some mud or residual ice as winter gives way to spring.
We encourage you to bring binoculars and cameras to capture this special occasion. A few spotting scopes will be available to enhance your viewing experience.
This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required to help us manage attendance.
Staff will greet you along the walking path leading to the riverbank. Join us in celebrating the return of our feathered friends and the vibrant spirit of spring!
The walking path is paved and fully accessible. The heron rookery is visible from the walking path. Please ask a park ranger or volunteer for assistance.
Access to the riverbank is not fully accessible. There are approximately twenty stairsteps if the stairwell is open (weather conditions permitting). If not, expect to travel across uneven terrain.
The lot at Marshall Terrace will be closed for heron-viewers with mobility needs. Free street parking can be found in the surrounding neighborhood off Marshall St. SE and 28th Ave NE (be mindful of residential driveways).
