Their debut, My Lost Decade, was released February 1 on Spacecase Records. Minneapolis-based songwriter Dan Hornsby is a novelist, too—his latest, Sucker, came out on Anchor in July—and these nine songs put his storytelling skills on full display. The title track’s narrator accounts for his ten-year debauched fugue. “Midtown Matt” follows barflies who always threaten to leave town but never quite get their shit together. “Comeback Special” is about a waiter who thinks he’s the reincarnation of Elvis. Tailer Ransom offers beautifully textured synths, mean guitar fills, piano, and banjo throughout the record, and Texas songwriter Megan Storie, Big Clown's Zach Mitchell, and Midlake’s Jesse Chandler make striking cameos. Mixed and mastered by Matt Qualls at Easley McCain Recording, the warm, wobbly songs evoke some of the venerable bands who recorded there, especially Silver Jews and Guided By Voices.

Minneapolis-based songwriter Dustin James was the bassist for the garage rock band Green/Blue and the creative force behind the noisy shoegaze trio Waveless. The sound of his latest album Paper Star combines the subtlety, darkness, and experimentation of these past projects, yet also marks a more intimate and contemplative departure. James is also a visual artist and printmaker, and the elegance and delicate technique of these songs make for the musical equivalents of the works of Richard Tuttle or Brice Marden. The songwriting is especially indebted to artists like Sparklehorse, Lou Barlow, and Dean Wareham.
