There are many fun things to do in Minneapolis, and one of the favourites of the locals is to go to Lake Calhoun. A serene place, it is an amazing feeling to the boat or simply float around on the lake. You can rent boats there, be it a pedal boat, a kayak or even a canoe – even stand-up paddleboards are available. There are some amazing spots for hiking in Minneapolis – Minnehaha Falls are one you can. The stunning destination has more than ten miles of trails around them where you can hike and explore the surroundings. The 53-foot waterfall is a treat to see, too. One of the best places for camping near Minneapolis is Afton State Park, where you can rent a yurt and live close to nature. This is a place where you can catch some much-needed sleep and chill with your buddies after exploring the signature bluff of the park.
There are some amazing places where you can visit on your day trips from Minneapolis. The main one is the Minnehaha National Park, which is located towards the southeast of the city. The place has the Minnehaha Falls mentioned above and sees more than 800000 visitors every year. You can choose to simply stroll through the pergola garden, and dine at the Sea Salt Eatery – there are even live shows at the Minnehaha Bandstand for you to enjoy. The Chain of Lakes National Park is another one of the most fun things to do in Minneapolis – the park is located towards the southwest of the city, and the place has some boating and hiking options too. The Lyndale Park Rose Garden is a great place to visit, and the live music at the Lake Harriet is also a treat for visitors. In the winter, though, this place has some of the best cross-country ski trails in the state.
Afton State Park and the Minnehaha Park have been mentioned already, and the other amazing place for camping near Minneapolis is the Bear Head State Park. You can have fun swimming at the beach in the park, or pass your time fishing from the lake. The cabins in the campground have 73 sites, of which 45 have electricity. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is also a great place for camping near Minneapolis, with more than 1000 lakes in the vicinity. You can explore the water in a canoe, and listen to loons and wolves throughout the night. The George H. Crosby Manitou State Park is an awesome place, and you can listen to the babbling river when you fall asleep in your cabin. The state park saw around 3000 overnight visitors last year – this means that it is one of the places to go to if you want to simply relax in isolation.
