Modern-day Tunisia sits at the intersection of cultures and ethnicities: Romans, Ottomans, and French have laid claim to the indigenous lands of the Berbers over millennia. The Tunisian Republic finally gained its independence in 1957, and French remains an administrative language of the state. Today, France is home to the largest Tunisian diaspora, which has played a significant role in the multicultural identity of modern France.

Tunisian culture has much to offer when exploring the intersection of identity, language, migration, and independence.

Our series of events aims to connect cultures, reflect on the aftermath of colonialism, celebrate resilience, highlight the porousness of identity and place, and deepen mutual appreciation.


In March 2026, join us at the Alliance and explore an art exhibit by a Franco-Tunisian artist, try your hand at traditional cooking class, enjoy a live music program, join a literary talk, participate in a panel discussion, and bring your kids for a fun, educational program!
