Makwa Medicine: Solid Lotion Bar Making is a hands on workshop rooted in Ojibwe cultural knowledge and supported by STEM learning.

Participants will learn how Makwa (bear) medicine has traditionally been used for skin, hair, and cold weather care, and how modern science helps explain why it works.

During the workshop, each participant will create two 3 oz solid lotion bars using bear grease and plant medicines. We’ll explore the differences between solid and liquid lotion, natural anti inflammatory care, scalp health and hair support, and why solid lotion bars last longer than bottled products.

This experience blends cultural teaching, storytelling, and practical making. No prior experience is needed, and all materials are included. Participants leave with their handmade lotion bars and a deeper understanding of how traditional knowledge and science come together in everyday care.
