Step into a living tradition with English Country Dancing, an accessible and joyful social dance form with roots stretching back several centuries. This is the dancing of Queen Elizabeth I, the world of Jane Austen, and a vibrant tradition still inspiring musicians and choreographers today.

Danced to music that may be stately or spritely, traditional or modern, recorded or live, English country dance uses simple walking or skipping steps in time with the music. All dances are taught and usually done in long-ways sets, with partners facing each other in lines down the hall. After a walk-through, easy-to-learn figures are called throughout the dance as you interact with other couples, then progress and repeat.

Come on your own and be assured of dancing all evening. Our tradition welcomes beginners, encourages partner changes each dance, and invites anyone to dance with anyone—regardless of gender or experience.

Whether you’re looking for pleasurable exercise, a warm social community, mental stimulation, or a moment of beauty and connection, English Country Dancing has something for you.
