Dine with Martin Hesp

Highly acclaimed journalist and columnist with over 50 years of experience in the media industry, specialising in authentic food, drink, and culinary travel narratives across the UK and internationally.

From 2010 to 2020, Hesp served as the Food and Drink Editor for the Western Morning News, where he developed an unparalleled reputation as the "voice of Westcountry food and drink." His writing, which continues in regional papers, champions local producers, sustainable foraging (especially seafood and wild ingredients), and experiential cooking (e.g., beach picnics).

Martin’s extensive food writing is underpinned by decades of global travel, exploring and documenting diverse food cultures. Recent Hesp Out West features (which appear every weekend in both the Western Morning News and Western Daily Press) include culinary deep dives into the Dordogne region in France and the Algarve in Portugal, where he covered a traditional chestnut roasting festival and profiled a high-quality olive oil producer. He continues to share his regional and global discoveries on his personal journal, Hesp Food and Travel and is a member of both the Guild of Food Writers and the British Guild of Travel Writer
