"The Famous and the Infamous"
On Saturday evening, July 26, from 6:30 – 7:30pm, features Lucille Ball, American actress, comedian and studio executive, as portrayed by Leslie Goddard.
In the 1950s, comedienne Lucille Ball captured the hearts of television audiences across the nation. Ball’s wacky hijinks and fearless enthusiasm kept thousands laughing. Offscreen, she and her real-life husband Desi Arnaz launched their own television studio and pioneered new technologies.
Leslie Goddard is an award-winning actress and scholar who has been presenting history programs for more than fifteen years. Goddard holds a Ph. D. from Northwestern University specializing in American studies and U.S. history as well as a master’s degree in theater.
Opening for this showcase event will feature Mark Twain as portrayed by McAvoy Layne, as Master of Ceremonies.
Samuel Langhorne Clemens, known by the pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, and essayist. Clemens was praised as the greatest humorist the United States has produced, with William Faulkner calling him "the father of American literature". Twain's novels include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, as well as Roughing It.
After thirty-five years of school lectures and performances across the globe, McAvoy Layne retired from performing as Mark Twain in 2023, however he continues to find reasons to dust off the white suit for a good cause and a good time.
