トランプショック以来、梅雨を通り越してのゲリラ豪雨、自民都議選大敗、そして最近の散発地震に揺れ動く日本列島ですが、みなさんはいかがお過ごしでしょうか。大変動が続く中、ますます我々一人一人の真実を見抜く洞察力が試されていると言えます。
さて、2001年創立の「東京多色文化の会」（通称ポリカル）ですが、年齢、言語、性別、職業、階層を超えて「異なるもの」と成長する多色文化を目指し24年間継続しています。世界の分断が進行する今ほどポリカル的理念が必要とされています。
9月のポリカルチャーのレクチャーディナーは、香道研究家の「渡辺えり代」さんをゲストに開催します。えり代さんには、貫いてきた自身のポリカル的生き方と世界観、そして香道がこれから目指す将来について熱く語って頂きます。みなさんの奮ってのご参加をお待ちしております。

演題：世界共通の文化「お香」を現代に甦らせる ～人と人、古代と現代、西と東、天と地をつなぐ香り〜
合成香料を使った大量生産のお香の商品と違って、本物のお香は元来「薬」です。古代エジプト・古代中国・縄文時代・奈良時代・平安時代などから現代までの「お香の歴史」と日常生活における「お香の使い方」についてお伝えします。

・蓮心流香道の家元・香研究会 IRI (Incense Research Institute) 代表として、伝統的な香道、世界のお香の歴史、香りの薬効を統合した学際的アプローチで、20年以上におよぶ研究を重ね、上質な天然香材にこだわったオリジナルのお香の創作を通して、感性の開花・心身の健康・魂の成長のための香りの役割について探求してきた。
・代表作「熟香®︎ロータス」は、日本の蓮の花を使い、独自の発酵技術による革新性と文化的意義から海外で高い評価を得ている。
・英国Sotheby’s Institute of Artで世界の美術史、米国Lesley Universityで芸術療法を学び、修士号取得。

えり代さんとの出会いはもう20年くらい前になります。当時小生は長かった海外勤務から東京に帰還したばかりで、浦島太郎状態で多忙を極めていた時期でした。えり代さんも若く（いまもお若いですが）、お互い将来の夢を語りあったのを覚えています。いまは、すっかり大御所の雰囲気が漂う香道家になられました。そしてIncense Research Instituteの代表として第一線で活躍されています。20年前の出会い以来、これからも大事にしていきたい繋がりです。

Since the Trump shock, Japan has been shaken by torrential rains that went beyond the rainy season, as being exemplified in the LDP's defeat in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election, and recent sporadic earthquakes, etc. How are you all doing? As these upheavals continue, it makes me believe each of us is now being tested more and more for our insight into the truth.
The Tokyo Polyculture Association (commonly known as 'Policaru') was founded in 2001, and has been continuing for 24 years, aiming to create a polyculture that grows with "different beings" beyond age, language, gender, occupation, and class. Now that the world is becoming more divided, the "politiculture" philosophy is more needed than ever.
The September Polyculture lecture dinner will feature Ms. Eriyo Watanabe, Representative of Incense Research Institute as a guest speaker. Eriyo will passionately tell us about her own 'polycultural' way of life and worldview that she has adhered to, and the future that "Kodo" The Way of Incense path/practice of fragrance.

Title: Regenerating the universal culture of incense in the modern age - Fragrances that connect people, ancient and modern, East and West, heaven and earth -
Unlike mass-produced incense products that use synthetic fragrances, real incense is originally a medicine. She will talk about the history of incense from ancient Egypt, ancient China, the Jomon period, the Nara period, and the Heian period to the present day, and how to use incense in everyday life.

With an interdisciplinary approach that integrates traditional incense, the history of incense around the world, and the medicinal properties of fragrance, she has conducted research for over 20 years and has explored the role of fragrance in the development of sensibility, mental and physical health, and spiritual growth through the creation of original incense made with high-quality natural aromatic materials.
・Her signature incense, “Juku-koh® Lotus," is highly regarded overseas for its innovative and cultural significance, which uses Japanese lotus flowers and is made using a unique fermentation technique.
・She studied world art history at Sotheby's Institute of Art in the UK and expressive arts therapy at Lesley University in the US, and obtained a master's degree.
・Her research is based on a global, intercultural perspective gained through her living experience in London, Paris, Hong Kong, New York, Boston, and travel to more than 50 countries.

It has been about 20 years since I met Eriyo last time. At that time, I had just returned to Tokyo from a long overseas assignment and was extremely busy feeling like “the Tale of Urashima Tarō”. Eriyo san woke me up by her lovely & lively "scent" (smile). I was also young (and she still is), and I remember us talking about our dreams for the future. She has become a maestra of incense arts, exuding the aura of a maestra now. She has long been very active at the forefront as the Representative of the Incense Research Institute. Since we first met almost 20 years ago, it is a connection of serendipity I hope to continue to cherish.
Starting with Eriyo's lecture, let's have a great discussion about our past, present, and future from the long paths of "fragrances". First-time participants in polyculture are also cordially welcome. Please come along and participate. See you all soon!
