The event will take place at ThriveOn King in historic Bronzeville. Hawkins will be joined by the Journal Sentinel's James Causey and Tannette Elie, president of NABJ-Milwaukee, for a conversation about his book. It tells the story of his family's pursuit of the American Dream while grappling with the impacts of systemic racism and racial violence. To their suburban Minnesotan neighbors, the Hawkins family appeared to be the ideal American family, embodying strength and success.
