Meanwhile, everyone else will take part in the Milton Keynes Open event, where the champion will be whoever tops the standings after the seven heat games. The event will be carried out in the "Bristol" style. How this works: shorturl.at/hMh3h (link should direct to Google Docs). You'll be playing seven 9-rounders. Where the letters rounds are concerned, there will be 42 played over the course of the heat games, therefore the number of attendees present will determine whether or not everyone gets a turn at picking consonants and vowels for the room at some point. Once the seven heat games have concluded and the scores have been collected, the two top-performing players in the finals will come head-to-head in the championship grand final to determine the champion of the 2026 FOCAL season. ———————————— 🏠 Venue Novotel Milton Keynes, Saxon St, Leyburn Ct, Heelands, Milton Keynes, MK13 7RA 🗺️ Google Maps link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/tqC32MmxNR3em1f38 🧭 Getting to the venue The event venue is less than 2 miles away from Milton Keynes Central station. 🅿️ For anyone planning on driving in, there are 120 car parking spaces at the hotel available on a first come, first served basis. Car parking is free but you must register your car at reception if parking on site. ———————————— 🎟️ Admission £13 per person. You can sign up via this Google Form: shorturl.at/tFjNP. Please also answer the questions on the form. ———————————— 🍴 Lunch and breaks There will be a lunch break after the second or third match. As with most co-events now, lunch will not be provided. There are plenty of amenities nearby, including a Tesco Express, Costa Coffee and McDonald's. There will be another short break during the afternoon while the exciting championship grand final match is set up, which will be a chance to recharge your glass before we get our showpiece underway. ❗️Please note that any refreshments purchased outside of the hotel are not to be consumed in the public areas of the hotel; only within our private conference suite. ———————————— 🌙 Evening plans There are now typically two separate meal bookings after the FOCAL finals events, but we'll keep everyone updated closer to the time. ———————————— 🏨 Accommodation If you don't manage to bag a room at the Novotel, there are many low-cost hotel options available in central Milton Keynes, all within a couple of miles of the event venue. ———————————— 👟 Parkrun For the parkrunners among us, the closest course to the venue is Linford Wood. The average finish time is 00:31:49 (correct as of 06/07/2026), which should be sufficient time for everyone to get back to their accommodation for a shower before the first round draw takes place at 11:00.
