H&S
Main hazzards

Conditions
If there has been heavy rain prior to the sess or the wind is stonger than 15mph the sess will be canceled. Weather conditions make the session far more dangerous and multiplies many of the risks below.

The weir. (downnstream)
If it is windy, heavy flow or we have beginners we will always paddle upstream away from the wier.

If we paddle downstream please stay away from the Weir and upstream of the most competent paddlers.

If someone were to swim and go over the weir there is a real risk of death. The liklihood of this happening is higher with less experienced paddlers, multiplied hugely by weather conditions (2 people died in a weir in Kempston last year. They are to be respected.)

Slip way- v slippery avoid stepping on the green/wet area of this. The banks and side of the slipway are much better to use.

Drowning/fatigue. head injuries or major health issues.

There should be the 2 most competent paddlers designated at the front and the back of the group. If you are at the front, you have the resposibility of stopping the group regularly and checking where the back person is to mantain the group and make sure people arent in trouble at the back of the group. Journeying needs to consider the slowest paddlers as the priority. remember they may fall in or have a medical emergancy. it is not fair for someone at the back to deal with this alone.

Please stay as a group so that any potential hazzard of this nature can be dealt with as effectively and efficiently as possible. Please look ahead and avoid trees.

It is advised that all paddleboarders wear a bouancy aid, especially beginners and children.
please ask me before as early as possible if you wish to borrow one.

Falling from board onto objects. Pleasecgo on your knees when near the banks, near trees where toots and brances can be submerged and when in a close proximity to other people or boats etc.

The leader will hsve a phone and 1st aid kit if required.

If you are a 1st aider if you could advise this along with your river experience that would be great!

Responsibility
Adhering to this will keep everyone safer in the group. This does not detract from the fact that your safety and the safety of anyone/animals you bring is soley your responsibility.

I am really looking forwards to a positive get together with some more of you super lot. Please share to anyone that may want to come. They must be AEA members before arriving though.

Cant wait to see you lot and have loads of fun in the sun and as the sun sets
