Have you ever wondered who was entombed in the large and stately buildings at Mount Pleasant Cemetery? Or wanted to discover the final resting place of many of Millville’s mayors and other distinguished citizens from the city’s rich history? Then step beyond the cemetery’s notable arch entrance and join the Millville Historical Society’s guided walking tour on Saturday, April 25, 2026, 2:00 to 3:30 pm. Mount Pleasant Cemetery is located at 601 West Main Street, Millville.

Tanner Duski, a member of the Millville Historical Society’s Board of Trustees and one of the tour guides, will portray James M. Wells, Millville’s first official mayor and the first Superintendent of Mount Pleasant Cemetery. This year marks the 160th anniversary of the opening of the cemetery, the incorporation of Millville as a city, and the first mayoral election of James M. Wells.

After entering the cemetery’s main gate, visitors should proceed to the top of the hill, where a small parking lot is located on the left. Due to several uneven surfaces throughout this historic site, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
After the tour, all are welcome at the 1814 Wood Mansion House, located at 821 Columbia Avenue, for refreshments, conversation, and a pictorial history of Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Tours of the Mansion will be available upon request.

The event is free and open to everyone, with donations appreciated.
