Thinking of climbing Katahdin? Join us for an engaging and practical program with Aaron Megquier, Executive Director of Friends of Baxter State Park. Drawing on decades of personal experience and his professional work in conservation and safety, Aaron will walk us through what it takes to climb Maine’s highest mountain safely.
Topics will include trail options and difficulty levels, what to bring and wear, safety best practices, and what happens when things go wrong. Aaron will also share maps, gear, and stories that bring the experience to life. Whether you're planning your first hike or your fiftieth, you'll leave better prepared and inspired to explore Katahdin.
This event will take place in person at Millinocket Memorial Library with an option to attend via Zoom.

Speaker Bio:
Aaron Megquier has served as the Executive Director of Friends of Baxter State Park since 2013. He holds a degree in biology from Colby College and a master’s degree in conservation biology and sustainable development from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Aaron grew up near Bangor and first climbed Katahdin, via the Saddle Trail, at age six. He has climbed it more than fifty times since then in all weather conditions and all seasons – and still looks forward to the next time! Aaron is a Registered Maine Guide and former EMT, and loves helping people enjoy the Maine outdoors safely. He lives in Belmont, Maine with his wife and two daughters.
