Registration ends 8/7 at 11:59 PM.About this EventWelcome to the FREE Teen Heart Screening event on August 8, 2026 at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, TX!ARRIVAL DETAILS: Expect an email from info@champhearts.org a few days ahead of the screening with the latest arrival instructions.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:♥ Championship Hearts screens teens, ages 12-18, for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). Generally, one screening after age 15 is sufficient, unless cardiac symptoms are present. ♥ HCM causes a thickening of the heart wall, and can lead to obstruction of blood flow and an erratic heartbeat. ♥ HCM typically does not present any symptoms. ♥ HCM is the leading cause of sudden cardiac death in young people. ♥ HCM effects roughly 1 in 500. ♥ This screening does not check for causes of heart murmurs.♥ Volunteers (adults or high school age students) are needed for this event. Click here to register as a volunteer for the heart screening on 8/8/2026.♥ A parental waiver must be signed in order for the student to receive a screening. ♥ Students should wear loose fitting clothing. ♥ Screening includes a 12-lead Electrocardiogram (ECG) and a limited 2-D Echocardiogram (ECHO). ♥ The screening process typically takes approximately 20 minutes per student. NOTE: AVERAGE WAIT TIME BETWEEN TESTING STATIONS VARIES, THEREFORE PLEASE ALLOW APPROX. 45 MINUTES FOR THE ENTIRE PROCESS. ♥ Screenings are offered at no charge. For those choosing to make an optional donation, $35 does help offset the cost to screen a student and helps fund other Foundation projects. ♥ Students may have the option to participate in the Texas Adolescent Athlete Heart Screening Registry (TAAHSR) research study. To participate, students and parents are informed of data collected, can ask questions, and must sign appropriate Consent documents.
