Join us as Trail Coordinator Mark Hennessy leads a group hike (with snowshoes) out the North Loop toward the northwest corner of the park to scope and pack snow for a temporary, winter-only fat bike trail addition. We’ll work as a team to pack the snow down with snowshoes so the groomer can safely follow later. This will help create smoother riding conditions and allow us to post signage discouraging foot traffic on these new lines—something we can’t do on the existing trails.

After the work is done, stick around for some well-earned hangout time around the fire pit, with delicious temptations from Chef Greg Nagley ??

Mark your calendars, but check back in case the coming warm up changes things.

❓ Why are we doing this?

While current conditions are decent, existing groomed trails are already getting beat up by hiker and animal postholes, which leads to rough, choppy fat bike riding. The City has approved a one-time, snow-only route through the woods dedicated to fat bike use. When the snow melts, the trail disappears and returns to nature—this is NOT a permanent trail.

We had planned to flag the route first, but the early snowfall means we need snowshoes to safely identify hidden logs and obstacles before grooming.

Dress for winter conditions and plan to be outdoors the entire time

Bring water and anything you’ll want for a post-work fire pit hangout

Restrooms and other amenities are limited—plan accordingly (no running water, two porta-potties)
