On Tuesday, February 24th and Tuesday, March 24th, join Orange County 4-H for practice night for the 4-H Livestock-Skill-A-Thon!
4-H Livestock Skill-a-thon practices are designed to prepare youth for the regional livestock Skill-a-thon on April 26th at SUNY Cobleskill and the state livestock skill-a-thon at the great New York State Fair!
The Livestock Skill-a-thon is designed to assess a 4-H member’s understanding of animal science and the fundamentals of managing livestock. Through this contest, youth are able to strengthen both their practical livestock skills and broader life skills in a competitive, educational setting.
Skill-a-thons emphasize experiential learning, giving participants the chance to reinforce their knowledge through hands-on activities. Since 2011, more than 10,000 young people in New York have taken part in nine different species-focused Skill-a-thons at the New York State Fair. These have included contests for beef, dairy, dogs, goats, horses, poultry, rabbits, cavies (guinea pigs), sheep, and swine (cals.cornell.edu).
Previous Livestock Experience preferred.
