Digital Media Training Course: faithful, practical, and tested ways to tell your story
We live in an “attention” economy in which media communication deeply matters. Yet our UCC congregations often lack basic education and training in how to meaningfully engage 21st century media tools for communication.
The two-part Digital Media Training Course will equip church leaders, staff, and volunteers with the tools and confidence they need to effectively share the church’s message of faith and hope in today’s digital landscape.
Part One is a 90-minute Zoom session that introduces participants to the course content and prepares them for the in-person experience by helping them identify key communication goals and audience insights.
Part Two is a comprehensive, day-long, in-person training (with a break for lunch) that dives deep into five essential areas: Media Messaging, Interview Techniques, Social Media Content Creation, Digital Storytelling, and Online Safety. Through a mix of short lessons, interactive activities, and shared reflections, participants will learn to craft clear messages, engage effectively on diverse media, and tell meaningful digital stories while navigating online safety.
By the end of the course, participants will have practical skills, tailored strategies, and increased confidence to lead vibrant, safe, and engaging digital ministry spaces.
Course instructor: Rev. Dr. Lawrence Richardson, Associate Conference Minister for Church Vitality and Transitions in the Michigan Conference UCC, brings 12 years of experience to the work of media training.
