The Point Comfort Art Fair & Show continues its exploration of the Black imagination through this year’s curatorial theme, The Life and Times of Frederick Douglass. As one of America’s most photographed figures and a fierce advocate for the transformative power of imagery, Douglass believed that pictures could advance progress by reshaping how the world saw Black people. In his seminal speech “Pictures and Progress,” he argued that representation—whether visual, literary, or cultural—was a revolutionary force.
On this night, that philosophy comes alive through music in the Rare Groove Soundscape curated by DJ Klassik. Klassik’s set becomes a gallery of sound—rare soul cuts, warm analog textures, deep funk rhythms, and intimate melodic portraits. Each track acts as a sonic “picture,” echoing Douglass’s belief that art can illuminate truth, restore dignity, and move people toward transformation. His soundscape is not simply entertainment; it is a curated reflection on identity, heritage, and the collective memory of a people.
This immersive musical experience is hosted by the Zeta Nu Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and co-hosted by Habesha Hub, whose leadership, scholarship, cultural pride, and community uplift amplify the spirit of Douglass’s lifelong commitment to education and representation.
Within the atmosphere of the Point Comfort Art Fair & Show, where visual art, history, and contemporary creativity converge, the Rare Groove Soundscape becomes a living dialogue between past and present. The artwork on the walls, the energy of the crowd, and the music in the air all serve as interconnected portraits—each one an embodiment of Douglass’s message that progress is made when people are truly seen and fully heard.
Tonight, we honor that legacy.
We gather not only to enjoy music but to experience a continuum of storytelling—where every beat, every portrait, and every collective moment echoes Douglass’s call for representation, humanity, and cultural pride.
