The 75th anniversary of the 1944 Normandy Invasion, D-Day, will be commemorated in 2019. Few people know that, ten months earlier on a remote siding in Canada, it was aboard his private railroad car, the Ferdinand Magellan, that President Franklin D. Roosevelt came to a personal decision to champion the liberation strategy that would begin with D-Day, Operation Overlord. Presidents’ Day, February 18, 2019, come and hear the fascinating story in Miami beside this famous car of U.S. Presidents at the Gold Coast Railroad Museum. Philip Padgett will give a talk on his book, Operation Overlord: The D-Day Strategy and the Atomic Bomb, alongside the Ferdinand Magellan now a National Historic Landmark carefully preserved by the museum.
