Set in New York City, it follows four seemingly unconnected people whose lives gradually intertwine through chance encounters, missed connections, and unexpected acts of kindness. With a soaring, heartfelt score and intimate storytelling, the show celebrates hope, human connection, and the courage it takes to open your heart. Audition dates & location: Initial auditions: Tuesday August 11 & Thursday August 13 from 6:30 pm to 8:45 pm Auditions will consist of a short vocal audition with an accompanist Forest Street Union Church, Methuen (15 Forest St, Methuen, MA 01844) Invited Callbacks: Friday August 14 from 6:30 pm to 8:45 pm Callbacks will consist of individual character vocal selections from the show and vocal selections between characters for chemistry reading Forest Street Union Church, Methuen (15 Forest St, Methuen, MA 01844) Rehearsal Schedule, Tech Week & Performance Dates: Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 9 pm at the Forest Street Union Church in Methuen with the exception of Friday September 18 which we be held instead of Thursday September 17. Rehearsals will begin Tuesday August 25. Rehearsals will increase to three days a week on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning on Sunday September 13. Sunday rehearsals will be at The Real School of Music in Burlington from 10:30 am to 1 pm Performances will be October 23 - 25 in The Worden Theater at the North Andover Historical Society Required tech week rehearsals will be October 17 - October 22 in The Worden Theater at the North Andover Historical Society Vocal Audition Guidelines: Please prepare one short (1-2 minutes or approximately 32 bars) excerpt or two shorter (30-45 seconds or approximately 16 bars) excerpts that is/are in the style of Ordinary Days, but NOT from the show! A few song selection tips: Choose a song that suits your voice and highlights your personal talents. Choose a song that you actually enjoy singing! Make sure it’s in the best key possible for your voice (not too low or too high). Choose a song that allows you to act - you should be able to demonstrate engaged storytelling. Your song should (of course) be performed with proficient pitch, tone, diction and vocal clarity. What does “in the style of” mean? (You do NOT have to follow these guidelines, they are simply suggestions) Songs from the same time period that the show was written or set in. Songs with similar themes. Songs of similar style/genre. Technical Notes An accompanist will be provided for all auditions. Please bring your own sheet music in the correct key (if you are unsure, please ask!). Sheet music should be adequately marked and prepared (in a binder, with start/end points and any cuts clearly marked). Please do not bring: hardback books, loose-leaf pages, or anything involving staples. Sheet protectors are perfectly OK but not necessary. A cappella auditions will not be permitted; you must demonstrate that you can perform with live accompaniment. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your audition time slot to fill out audition paperwork. Please come prepared and warmed up! Cast Breakdown: WARREN Vocal Range: G#2 - G5, Tenor/Baritone A loveable oddball, WARREN is an artist with something to say, but he’s not quite sure what it is yet. He’s determined, positive, and a bit over-eager, but his heart is always in the right place. His budding friendship with DEB forces him to reflect on his “big picture” in life, while he helps her appreciate the everyday. Comedic delivery is essential. DEB Vocal Range: F#3 - E5, Mezzo A no-nonsense high-achiever, DEB is a disgruntled grad student who is constantly looking elsewhere for happiness. Impatient, a bit neurotic, and despite her protests, overall a negative person, she’s got big dreams but no real idea how to achieve them. When her world collides with WARREN, whom she initially dismisses as a “waste of a life,” her walls come crashing down as she discovers what makes life beautiful. Comedic with strong diction. JASON Vocal Range: A2 - G#4, Tenor A devoted and loving man, JASON has recently moved in with his girlfriend, CLAIRE, and couldn’t be more thrilled to start the next chapter of their lives, even if he has to stay in New York City. He knows exactly what he wants in life, or rather, who he wants, but he doesn’t understand why CLAIRE is so resistant to their relationship’s progression. After his energetic opening number, primarily sings reflective, emotional ballads. CLAIRE Vocal Range: G3 - E5, Soprano Struggling with the progression of her relationship, CLAIRE is a headstrong and emotionally layered woman who can’t seem to let go of the past. While she loves JASON, she’s constantly in her own head and often shuts him out, getting in her own way of happiness. Strong, expressive belter who is very confident in both the comedic and the dramatic. Casting Information: If cast, all performers will be required to become a General Member of Black Dog Theatre.
