9:30 am: Podcasting for Beginners and More with Patrick Gipson

Participants will learn more about various types of podcasts, how they are made, how they are published, and how audience interaction often drives the subject matter of more successful podcasters. Attendees will go through the steps to start their own podcasts including planning, scheduling, and how to produce it for free using just a cell phone and home computer. No one needs to have either of these devices at the presentation, but participants are welcome to bring their own if they want to follow along and learn step-by-step. The session will also be useful for anyone who interested in "What's this whole 'podcasting' thing I keep hearing about?" even if they are not interested in starting one for themselves.

Lieutenant Patrick Gipson is an officer with the Southeastern Louisiana University Police Department and an English instructor who completed his Master's Thesis on Creative Writing in an Episodic Fiction Podcast. He also developed an educational podcast for a local police department and is developing a pop culture podcast. He is a big fan of science fiction and fantasy and has attended every Star Wars movie since 1977 in person on opening day.

11 am: One-Hour Flash Nonfiction Writing Workshop with Annell Lopez

Attendees will learn the characteristics of flash nonfiction while participating in guided writing prompts and working on crafting short and compelling essays that explore real-life experiences.

Annell López is the winner of the Louise Meriwether First Book Prize and the author of the short story collection "I’ll Give You a Reason" from the Feminist Press.
