Type 1 diabetes has touched my life as a daily reality I see reflected in the people and families I serve.
As the founder of ELM and a clinician, I work closely with individuals living with Type 1 diabetes and those at risk. People navigating constant glucose checks, insulin decisions, technology alarms, fear of lows, long-term complications, and the emotional weight that comes with a lifelong condition. I see the resilience it takes just to get through an ordinary day, and I also see the gaps: delayed diagnoses, misdiagnoses, underutilization of preventative care, limited access to specialty care, and too many people feeling overwhelmed or unsupported.
That’s why I’m walking for Breakthrough T1D.
I believe that everyone affected by T1D deserves earlier detection, better tools, more personalized care, and ultimately, a future without the disease. Breakthrough T1D’s work in research, advocacy, and community support brings us closer to that future, one where prevention, improved treatments, and cures are possible.
This walk is personal. It’s for my patients. It’s for families learning to manage a new diagnosis. It’s for those at risk who deserve answers sooner. And it’s for a future where T1D no longer dictates daily life.
