Plantie Mame -- the Diva of Dirt herself -- invites you to a vibrant, community-rooted afternoon celebrating growth, connection, and joy among the trees and other fabulous flora of the Barnes Arboretum. This free, family-friendly event blends the magic of houseplants with the power of a growth mindset, all wrapped in the playful, welcoming spirit of Pride Month.

? WHAT'S HAPPENING

Plant Swap — Growing Community, One Cutting at a Time:

Bring a healthy, pest‑free plant, cutting, or propagation to exchange with someone else. Plant swaps are a beautiful way to build community—when you share a plant, you’re also sharing a story, a little piece of your home, and a moment of connection.
We’ll have a check‑in station to help ensure all plants are free of pests so everyone goes home with something thriving. Don’t worry if you don’t have plants to trade… there will be some available to start your collection. We will also have a repotting table with plenty of soil.

Positivity Pots — Crafting Care You Can Hold:

Decorate your own positivity pot using our collection of stickers, affirmations, and colorful materials. You’ll leave with a pot that carries a message you choose—something uplifting, grounding, or delightfully campy. You can bring your own pots or we'll have some to share.

Throughout the afternoon, Plantie Mame will guide guests in noticing how plant care mirrors self‑care. This event is especially meaningful during Pride Month—a celebration of resilience, creativity, and the many ways we grow in community.

You are encouraged explore the grounds of the arboretum at your leisure. Look for the state championship trees, the formal gardens, and the Laura Barnes Fern Dell, among other treasures.

LOGISTICAL NOTES:

-- The rain date is Sunday, June 28th from 1pm-4pm. If the weekend is a washout, we have an indoor option at the arboretum.

-- If you enter Barnes Arboretum into your GPS, you might wind up at the wrong entrance. You want to enter the campus at the intersection of City Avenue and Lapsley Lane. Proceed down the driveway past some college buildings and you will hit the parking lot for the arboretum. There are also plenty of Septa options to get you to and from the event.

-- Be sure to bring a refillable water bottle and sunscreen. Bathrooms are available. Food and drinks will NOT be available for purchase unless otherwise noted.

-- All attendees are welcome to enjoy the Frances M. Maguire Art Museum that is part of the grounds. There is no admission fee.

-- While the parking lot, plant swap area, and bathrooms are ADA accessible, most of the trails in the arboretum are wood-chipped or grass with occasionally uneven terrain.
