Ring in the New Year with an unforgettable evening of world-class jazz, fine wine, and exceptional dining at The Loft at Hermit Woods! Internationally acclaimed pianist, vocalist, and composer Daniela Schächter returns to The Loft, joined by Keala Kaumeheiwa on bass and Charlie Weller on drums.
Daniela Schächter’s contemporary approach to jazz always brings something new to the audience.
Daniela Schächter, jazz vocalist, pianist, arranger, and composer, was born in Sicily, Italy. After her classical studies, she moved to Boston, MA, as the recipient of a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music, where she studied with Phil Wilson, Joe Lovano, Hal Crook, and Joanne Brackeen.
Daniela has won many prestigious awards, such as the Mary Lou Williams Jazz Piano Competition (2005), the Sisters in Jazz Competition (2002), the Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead Competition (2002), the Terri Lyne Carrington Endowed Scholarship, and the Tindari ’93 Prize for Best Jazz Duo with her brother Davide. She appeared on the Jazziz magazine collector’s CD (July 2001). She was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to the Henry Mancini Institute, where she studied with Billy Childs and Bill Cunliffe.
Daniela has performed with Randy Brecker, John Clayton Jr. and the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, John Dankworth, Slide Hampton, the New York Voices, Terri Lyne Carrington, Patti Austin, Regina Carter, Christian McBride, Ingrid Jensen, Tiger Okoshi, Shirley Horn, Al McKibbon, and Phil Wilson, among others. She has also been conducted by Quincy Jones, Patrick Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, John Clayton Jr., Elmer Bernstein, Bob Brookmeyer, Justin DiCioccio, and Phil Wilson.
Daniela was a guest artist on the prestigious Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz radio program, the Java Jazz Festival, and the Mary Lou Williams Jazz Festival in 2006. She has released four albums as a leader. Her latest album, Vanheusenism: A Tribute to Jimmy Van Heusen, was released in October 2016 and recorded at Berklee College of Music thanks to a recording grant from the college. Her new album, featuring Jason Palmer on trumpet and other special guests, will be released in Spring 2026.
Daniela has performed at the Brass Group Jazz Festival, the Umbria Jazz Fest, the Cape May Jazz Festival, the Cleveland Jazz Fest with the Rainbow Big Band, the International Trumpet Guild Conference, the Kennedy Center, the Sarasota Jazz Festival, the Cape Cod Jazz Festival, The Blue Note with The Tiger Okoshi Quartet, Symphony Hall with the Boston Pops and Patti Austin, the Ravinia Jazz Festival with the Count Basie Big Band, and the Hollywood Bowl. She is currently leading her groups in several venues in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York City, and Rhode Island.
Daniela has been an Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, since 2008 and an AMP Professor at Brown University since 2018.

A Listening Room Experience
Hermit Woods is excited to bring talented artists from New England and beyond to perform for you. Each performance will provide you with an intimate, up-close, and personal experience with the performing artists. We ask our audience to please refrain from talking during the featured show. Your silence will allow the artists and the audience to immerse themselves in the experience, which is not otherwise possible in larger, noisier environments.
Arrive early or a complimentary wine tasting at 5:30. The Loft Doors open at 6:00 for those wishing to turn the evning into dinner and a show. The kitchen closes at 7:00 (dessert and drinks will be served after 7:00). When the featured artists take the stage, we will ask that the audience remain quiet during the performance. After the show, we invite you to interact with the artists and purchase any music or merchandise if available.
