Join us at the League of NH Craftsmen – Meredith Fine Craft Gallery on Saturday, December 6th, 2025 from 9 am - 5 pm for a Black Ash Berry Picking Basket Class with juried artist Alice Ogden.
Spend the day weaving this beautiful and functional berry picking basket, which measures 11 inches long by 5 inches wide by 4 inches deep. Expert basket maker Alice Ogden will guide you through the process from start to finish, allowing you to take home a beautiful completed basket of your own! All materials will be included, including New Hampshire black ash splints, whittled white oak rims, oak handles, and a wooden form to weave the basket over. Keep this gem of a basket for yourself, or make it as a beautiful and special handmade gift!
Students will need to bring: Scissors, a dishpan bucket for water, and a lunch.
Tuition is $105 per student with a $155 materials fee. The materials fee must be paid by cash or check to the artist at the time of the class.
Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
Those who wish to take the class MUST sign up by Monday, November 17th.
About the instructor: Alice has been a traditional black ash basket maker for over 45 years and a League member since 1986. She is known for her signature hand whittled white oak rims and handles. As a self-taught artist, the materials she uses in her baskets are harvested and processed by Alice herself. In 2012, Alice was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts for her artistic excellence and professional commitment to her craft. Alice was the maker of the 2013 League Christmas Ornament “Woven in Winter”, and her work is in several publications such as Martha Stewart Living Magazine and in permanent exhibits including the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
