Seit fast 20 Jahren führen seine Enkel Ernesto, Leonardo und Alejandro Repilado dieses musikalische Erbe weiter. Von ihrem Großvater haben sie gelernt, den traditionellen kubanischen Son authentisch zu interpretieren. Compay Segundo selbst wünschte sich, dass seine „vertonte Poesie“ – wie er seine Kompositionen nannte – in seinem Sinne weiterlebt. Er beauftragte die Gruppe persönlich und ernannte Ecos de Siboney zu seinen offiziellen Nachfolgern. 

Máximo Francisco Repilado Muñoz, meglio conosciuto come Compay Segundo, è stato uno dei protagonisti del Buena Vista Social Club e autore del celebre brano Chan Chan. Anche all’età di 94 anni continuava a esibirsi sui più importanti palcoscenici del mondo. 

Da quasi 20 anni, i suoi nipoti Ernesto, Leonardo e Alejandro Repilado portano avanti la sua eredità musicale. Dal nonno hanno imparato a interpretare in modo autentico il tradizionale Son cubano. Compay desiderava che la sua “poesia in musica” – come amava definire le proprie composizioni – continuasse a vivere nel suo spirito. Fu lui stesso ad affidare questo compito al gruppo, designando Ecos de Siboney come suoi eredi ufficiali. 

Máximo Francisco Repilado Muñoz, better known as Compay Segundo, was one of the world-famous musicians of the Buena Vista Social Club and the composer of the iconic song Chan Chan. Even at the remarkable age of 94, he continued to perform on the world’s great stages. 

For almost 20 years now, his grandsons Ernesto, Leonardo and Alejandro Repilado have been honoring his musical legacy. From their grandfather, they learned how to play traditional Cuban Son in an authentic way. Compay himself expressed the wish that his “poetic music” – as he liked to call his compositions – would live on in his spirit. He personally entrusted Ecos de Siboney with carrying on his legacy, officially naming them his successors.
